Cape Town trip in June 2010

Cape Town trip in June 2010

We landed at Cape Town Airport on 23 June 2010 @ 18h10 on a SAA flight from Johannesburg and were very excited as this was our first visit to Cape Town.

We picked up our luggage and found our way out of the terminal, looking for our name on one of the hundreds of name boards in the arrivals hall. The place was extremely busy as this was in the middle of the 2010 Soccer World Cup. We found the representative of Atlantic Car Hire & Shuttle Services without any problem.

On the drive through to our accommodation at Turnstone Cottage in Grotto Bay, the driver filled us in on some of the attractions on the West Coast and in and around Cape Town. The drive to Grotto Bay took about 45 minutes. We arranged that Atlantic Car Hire and Shuttle Services will deliver our rental car the following morning just after breakfast.

I woke up early the next morning and decided to go for a walk and explore our surroundings. What a beautiful place!!! It is a short walk down from Turnstone Cottage to a very pretty pebble beach from where you can walk along a pathway to two different private beaches. Grotto Bay is a Private Nature Reserve just 65 kilometers north of Cape Town up the West Coast and completely unspoilt.

Our Toyota Yaris rental car from Atlantic Car Hire & Shuttle Services arrived at 10h00 that morning as arranged. We wasted no time before starting to explore the area around Grotto Bay and decided to have breakfast / brunch at Groote Post Wine Farm just opposite Grotto Bay. We had a great breakfast and even tasted some wine afterwards.

We stayed at Turnstone Cottage for 7 days and used that as our base to travel up the West Coast some days and other days we would go as far as Cape Point. I have to say that the majority of the time we just stayed in Grotto Bay and enjoyed the beauty of the place and go for long walks along the white beaches.

We were met by the representative of Atlantic Car Hire & Shuttle Services on the morning of 1 July 2010 at Cape Town Airport where we returned our faithful little Toyota Yaris and were quite sad to see it go.

We really enjoyed our stay in Grotto Bay and will certainly return one day to this beautiful part of the Cape.

Thank you to everybody that made our stay so memorable.
